Wartburg Assistant Editor, junior Chloe Rehmert
Hello, everyone! My name is Chloe Rehmert. This year, I am serving as the assistant news editor for The Wartburg Trumpet. I am so excited to be part of this newspaper and work with a wonderful team of executives and writers to share Waverly and Wartburg news with the Wartburg community.
This year, many of our staff are new to The Trumpet. This is both an intimidating and exhilarating experience.
I joined The Wartburg Trumpet staff last year as a writer and lay-out designer. I will be quite honest; I was terrified to do either of those things. I had done writing for high school and college projects, but I had never interviewed someone before let alone written a news article. I was so scared to fail.
Despite my fear of inexperience, I decided to give it my best effort. After a quick pep talk, I scheduled my first interview. I pushed through my fear when walking into the office of a faculty member I had never met before and interviewed to the best of my ability. My first interview was 12 minutes long.
Last week, I scheduled an interview with a faculty member who I had never met before. It was also 12 minutes long. The fear and anxiety of meeting someone new was still there, but the feeling is much quieter. It was much easier to connect, interview and construct a story.
The Wartburg Trumpet gave me the opportunity to experience and practice two things I am passionate about, writing and learning new things. It is these passions I hope to extend to our new writers and the Wartburg community through my role.
It is my hope that through our work, we can encourage students to reach out and try new things. Writing and communication are everywhere, regardless of your field of study on campus and the professional career you will acquire when you leave it.
Fear is an extremely normal and rational sensation, and it is okay for us to acknowledge it. However, it is equally important for us to embrace it and push through it.
Do things scared, do them terrified even. You may learn something about yourself that you hadn’t considered before.
I am so excited to share the work of our amazing team with you. With Ali, Addy and Dr. Jones who all lead diligently and expertly, I believe the future is bright for The Wartburg Trumpet.
