On Oct. 18, more than seven million protesters attended over 2,700 events across the United States. With protests in each of the 50 states as well as international cities, millions of people were shouting the same message: “There are no kings in America.”
‘No Kings’, an organization founded by over 200 progressive organizations led by Indivisible and the 50501 Movement, began its mission in June of this year, with their first event held on June 14 during a 250th anniversary parade for the U.S. Army.
“Because this country does not belong to kings, dictators, or tyrants. It belongs to We the People — the people who care, who show up, and who fight for dignity, a life we can afford, and real opportunity,” states the No Kings website.
In Waverly, the Bremer County Democrats took charge to host a peaceful protest at Kohlmann Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. via a Facebook event, the Bremer County Democrats encouraged community members to ‘Bring signs and your voice.’
After the protest, Bremer County Democrats posted to their Facebook page that attendance was high.
“Over 500 people exercised their constitutional right to protest and peacefully rally in Waverly. Thank you to all who continue to fight for democracy. Now vote!” says the Bremer County Democrats Facebook page.
The No Kings organization is holding a mass call on Tuesday, Oct. 21 to discuss the success of the events on Oct. 18, and plan for what is next in the movement.
